Description

The Regulation of the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and Continental Shelf under the 1985 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) is a critical aspect of international maritime law. This essay proposes a research hypothesis to investigate the effectiveness of the UNCLOS framework in regulating these zones. The research hypothesis is straightforward: The UNCLOS framework effectively regulates the EEZ and Continental Shelf. This hypothesis will be tested by examining the Convention's provisions, implementation, and impact. The research aims to answer three key questions: 1. How effective is the UNCLOS framework in regulating the EEZ and Continental Shelf? 2. How do coastal states implement UNCLOS provisions? 3. What challenges arise in balancing the interests of coastal states, flag states, and the international community? By investigating these questions, this research will provide valuable insights into the UNCLOS framework's effectiveness in promoting sustainable development, environmental protection, and international cooperation.
