The data were collected using a structured survey designed to capture company characteristics and perceptions of uncertainty in construction projects in southwestern Colombia. The methodology is summarized below: 1. Survey Design The survey comprised two main sections: a) Company Characteristics - Geographical Origin: The originating department was recorded to reflect logistical challenges and regional conditions (e.g., DNP, 2020). - Operational Scope: The number of departments in which the company operates was included to evaluate geographical diversification. - Experience: Measured as the time since incorporation with the Chamber of Commerce. - Size: Categorized based on total annual income, aligned with MSME classifications. - Economic Activities: Evaluated using the International Standard Industrial Classification (ISIC) adapted for Colombia (DANE, 2022), focusing on activity diversification and its impact on revenue and uncertainty. b) Uncertainty Sources This section assessed uncertainty through three dimensions: - Frequency: Measured on a 6-point Likert scale (1 = “Never,” 6 = “Always”), e.g., “How often are experts consulted for decision-making?” - Magnitude: Measured on a 4-point Likert scale (1 = “Very small,” 4 = “Significant”), e.g., “How significantly does the involvement of experts increase uncertainty throughout the project?” - Signals: Evaluated using multiple-choice questions, e.g., “What is the most common cause of uncertainty due to expert use?” (a) Subjective information, (b) Linguistic variability, (c) Data variability, (d) Performance). A total of 51 questions were designed to cover internal and external sources of uncertainty comprehensively. 2. Data Collection The survey was administered online to legal representatives of construction companies in Cauca, Nariño, Huila, and Valle del Cauca.
