Description

This dataset contains daily observations (1 June 1989 – 30 September 2024, N = 12,903 records) of four hydrological variables monitored at Haditha Dam on the Euphrates River, Iraq: reservoir water level (m), upstream gauge level (m), downstream gauge level (m), and discharge (m³/s). The record contains substantial missing data (14.7–43.9% depending on variable), driven primarily by two conflict-related monitoring interruptions (the 2003–2006 Iraq War and the 2014–2018 ISIS conflict). Alongside the original (raw) series with missing values retained, this dataset provides a fully imputed version of three variables (water level, upstream level, discharge) produced using an adaptive, gap-aware imputation framework that routes each missing segment to the empirically best-performing method for its duration (linear interpolation, last-observation-carried-forward, a BRITS-style bidirectional GRU, or an MLP with hyperparameter optimisation; multi-year conflict-era gaps use a seasonal-mean fallback). Every imputed observation is flagged with the specific method used, enabling users to filter, weight, or exclude imputed values as needed for their own analysis. The downstream gauge level is provided only in raw form (not imputed) due to a 3,456-day terminal gap that falls outside the recoverable range of the methods used.
