Description

As per the climatic classification of Koppen the Barmer district lies in steppe (BShw) type of classification which is essentially a semi-arid region. Here rainfall is very scarce and it receives a meagre rainfall of 25-30 cm annually. Most of the rainfall is concentrated in monsoon season and rest of the months barely receive any amount of rainfall consequently exerting pressure on groundwater table to meet the basic need of drinking water, irrigation etc. This paper has made an attempt to ascertain the impact of the rainfall on the groundwater table of Barmer district. Data pertinent to rainfall of the Barmer district for past 19 years i.e., from 2000 to 2018 has been taken into account. Average groundwater data has been calculated year-wise and correlation coefficient between these two variables have been calculated to deduce the relationship. Analysing the relationship would reveal the relationship which can be employed to conceive plan for appropriate water management and sustainable development of the region.
