Description

The Disciplinary English Medium Instruction (DEMI) corpus is a specialized corpus compiled from university-level EMI lectures in Türkiye. It comprises 91 lectures from both hard and soft science disciplines, with a total word count of 493,762 words. The corpus includes lectures from four subjects: Geometry, History of Art and Architecture, Law and Institutions of the European Union, Probability and Random Variables The data for the study were collected from Middle East Technical University (METU). Specifically, the lectures used to compile the corpus were drawn from an open-access platform called METU Open-Courseware, available on YouTube. The data consist of 91 lectures across four subjects, and the permissions required to use the videos were obtained from METU's Audio-Visual Systems Research and Applications Centre (GISAM)​. The DEMI corpus serves as a valuable resource for analyzing classroom discourse in EMI settings, offering insights into how lecturers use recurrent word sequences, or lexical bundles, to convey academic content effectively.
