How can improved management of farm yard manure effect farm productivity in agro-pastoral land use context in Ethiopia? The main aim was to quantify the amount of manure produced, manure nutrients generated and its relative economic value, and investigate, through on-farm experimentation, the effect of manure on maize yield.

Steps to reproduce

The data was collected using on-farm surveys, field observations and on-farm experiments. The dataset include (1) farm assets (farm size, livestock units); (2) socioeconomic features (education, training); (3) manure supply in relation to crop demand and (4) maize grain and stover yield response for manuring; (5) the amount and nutrient composition of manure, and total nutrient output. Analysis of manure production was conducted in two ways: potential manure production estimation based on the relationship between animal live weight and excretal output as suggested by Fernández-Rivera et al. (1995), and direct manure measurement that is available in the farm.
