Description

Studies in different population have found a significant association of single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in transcription factor 7-like 2 (TCF7L2) with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). We aimed to see the association of SNP rs12255372 (G/T) in the TCF7L2 gene and T2DM in Bangladeshi population. This case-control study was conducted on 67 T2DM cases and 65 healthy controls. Age, gender, body mass index (BMI) and blood pressure were recorded. Bio-chemical profiles of glucose and lipid were also analyzed. Direct sanger sequencing was done for genotyping of SNP. Geneotypic and allelic associations with T2DM were done by logistic regression models in SPSS. A p-value <0.05 was regarded significant. We found that having risk T allele either heterozygous or homozygous mutant form of rs12255372 TCF7L2 were significantly associated with T2DM.
