Steps to reproduce
Participants were selected from a database of CLE patients maintained at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania since January 2007. A significant skin disease flare was defined as an increase of 7 or more in the CLASI-A score between consecutive clinic visits, as previously established.4 Two independent reviewers assessed pre- and post-flare images to determine whether flares occurred in previously affected skin, unaffected skin, or both. The anatomical sites of flares identified in photographs were cross-referenced with location-specific CLASI-A scores. Additional data included patient age, sex, smoking history, presence of concomitant SLE, absolute CLASI-A score changes, and CLASI-Damage scores at the time of the flare.
