Is There Any Correlation Among Neonates Anthropometry and Neuromotor Behaviour

ABSTRACT Background: Anthropometric measurement is one of the most portable, non-invasive, and low-cost approach. But anthropometric measurement has not yet been explored as a predictor of neuromotor deficit in neonates. Purpose: To find an association among anthropometric parameters and neuromotor behaviour in neonates. Methods: A correlation study was performed among neonates from 28 to 42 weeks of gestational age, both genders were included by using purposive sampling. All the included neonate’s birth weight, birth length and birth Occipito-frontal circumference documented from file. Current growth parameters, and anthropometric measurements of the neonates were documented by the principal investigator on the day of assessment. For neuromotor behaviour INFANIB scoring were documented. Results: Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient for demographic dimension with INFANIB was (ρ= -0.193, p = 0.162), (ρ= -0.208, p = 0.131), (ρ= -0.164, p = 0.237), (ρ=< -0.001, p = 1.000), (ρ= -0.134, p = 0.334), (ρ= -0.207, p = 0.132) respectively. For anthropometric parameters with INFANIB, correlation values were (ρ = -0.194, p = 0.160), (ρ = -0.181 p = 0,190), (ρ = -0.141, p = 0.309), (ρ = -0.086 p = 0.535), (ρ = -0.187, p = 0.175), (ρ = -0.143, p = 0.301), (ρ = -0.129, p = 0.354), (ρ = -0.140, p = 0.312) respectively. Conclusions: Neuromotor behaviour of neonates was not depend on their demographic dimensions and anthropometric parameters.
