Description

In this study, we identified Musclin, a skeletal muscle-enriched myokine, as a pivotal regulator of systematic energy metabolism and glucose homeostasis through directly binding to beige fat and inhibiting its thermogenesis, thereby playing an important role in the pathogenesis of obesity and its associated metabolic defects. The RNA-Seq data performed in this study were deposited in this dataset which contains processed RNA-Seq data from indicated mouse studies (Mus musculus). Details on sample collection and data analysis pipeline are described in manuscript. Briefly, for RNA-Seq of different mouse tissues, 14 tissues of C57BL/6J wildtype mice housed in normal condition were collected for total RNA extraction and RNA-Seq analysis; for RNA-Seq of iWAT and BAT of MCK-Musclin and control mice, iWAT and BAT were collected from MCK-Musclin and control mice following cold exposure at 8oC for 1 week and total RNA were extracted for RNA-Seq analysis. For RNA-Seq of iWAT from mice following cold acclimation and their controls, iWAT were collected from C57BL/6J wildtype mice following cold acclimation and control mice housed at room temperature for total RNA extraction and RNA-Seq analysis. RNA-Seq: (1) RNA-Seq of 14 different tissues_WT. CSV: RNA-Seq data of 14 tissues (Heart (Hrt), Gastrocnemius (Gast), Quadriceps (Quad), Plantaris (PL), Extensor digitorum longus (EDL), Tibialis anterior (TA), Soleus (Sol), Brain, Liver, White adipose tissue (WAT), Brown adipose tissue (BAT), Islets, Pancreas, Small intestine) from C57BL/6J wildtype mice fed with chow diet. No biological replicate was performed in this RNA-Seq. (2) RNA-Seq of iWAT_MCK-Musclin & CTR. CSV: RNA-Seq data of iWAT from MCK-Musclin and control mice following cold exposure at 8oC for 1 week. Three biological replicates in each group were performed, samples of ML_17, ML_18, ML_19 were from control group, and samples of ML_20, ML_21, ML_22 were from MCK-Musclin group. (3) RNA-Seq of BAT_MCK-Musclin & CTR. CSV: RNA-Seq data of BAT from MCK-Musclin and control mice following cold exposure at 8oC for 1 week. Three biological replicates in each group were performed, samples of ML_23, ML_24, ML_25 were from control group, and samples of ML_26, ML_27, ML_28 were from MCK-Musclin group. (4) RNA-Seq of iWAT_Cold & CTR. CSV: RNA-Seq data of iWAT from C57BL/6J wildtype mice following cold acclimation and control mice (housed at room temperature). Two biological replicates in each group were performed, samples of RT_1, RT_2 were from control group, and samples of Cold_1, Cold_2 were from mice following cold acclimation.
