Transport megaproject management in Africa: trends, literature review and relevance to Europe Dataset
Description
This dataset provides additional information for our work titled, "Transport megaproject management in Africa: trends, literature review and relevance to Europe." Supplementary annex 1 overviews the 36 selected and reviewed literature on African transport infrastructure estimating and management. It names the author, article title, publisher, the region (focus area) of the article, methodology used, data sources, sample size, and the megaproject major and specific theme of the study. The papers were selected after an extensive review of African transport megaprojects research. Supplementary annex 2 datils the ongoing projects in Africa during 2019-2022 arranged by Value. The country, project name, client, funder,contractor, construction management challenges, and project cost are tabulated. An extensive review of available data on the internet using databases and browsers such as google was used to collect data on current projects. Magazines, websites about transport projects, and news articles from reputable organizations are among the sources used to build up this data. Many of the sources are highlighted. The challenges column mentions the notable megaprojects management challenges on African projects that mostly result in cost overruns and schedule delays. Africa had megaprojects totaling 153 billion USD. In this study, we proposed defining a megaproject in Africa as a project with a project cost of 1% of the country's Gross Domestic Product at the time of inception. The risk the country can accommodate is considered and the complexity of the project work. Also, many African countries have low GDP and projects around 500 million USD are considered megaprojects in this context. Supplementary annex 3 is an excel file with computations on Africa and the European Union (EU) projects during 2019-2022. The excel file contains eight sheets. They include EU projects, project value, distribution of funders for EU projects, projects per EU country by value number (contract size grouping), African project funding, and reference for African projects. The file has comparisons of the EU and Africa. Both blocs are doing differently economically, yet Africa almost equals the EU on projects above 10 billion USD. Africa´s project funding mainly comes from outside sources, while the EU primarily funds its projects. The supplementary annexes can be used to provide additional insights on the results section of the article "Transport megaproject management in Africa: trends, literature review and relevance to Europe."

Steps to reproduce
The 36 articles have been discovered using the Technical University of Denmark’s “Findit” library service (https://findit.dtu.dk/en) as a primary search tool. We used PRISMA-P methodology to arrive at the final results. The ongoing megaprojects have been discovered through extensive research on websites and construction review literature, including magazines. The African union website, national agencies, and programs responsible for transport projects have been reviewed country-wise. The EU websites and transport programs have been considered, such as the EU Ten-t, the European Court of Auditors.
