Description

Birds are important as bioindicators in ecosystem functioning in pollination , seed dispersal, and insect pest control. They are sensitive to environmental change though threatened by threats like habitat loss, fragmentation and degradation all over their range. Study on wetgrassland , agricultural land , forest and marshland at various habitats of West Bengal proved that passerines are the most dominant species found in W.B, under the order passeriformes. Passerine birds thus include more than half of the bird species, sometimes known as perching birds, due to the arrangement of their toes. They are also known as song birds.
