Description

Menopause, occurring around age 50, leads to a drop in estrogen, causing symptoms like hot flashes, mood swings, cognitive decline, and autonomic dysfunction. These changes affect quality of life and daily functioning. Hormone therapy helps but carries health risks, making non-drug options important. Exercise shows promise in easing symptoms, but few studies address cognitive, autonomic, and vasomotor issues together. This study aims to test a multidimensional exercise protocol to improve overall well-being in postmenopausal women.

Steps to reproduce

This two-phase study aimed to develop, validate, and pilot test a multidimensional exercise protocol for postmenopausal women targeting cognitive, autonomic, and vasomotor symptoms. Conducted from April 2024 to March 2025 at Maharishi Markandeshwar (Deemed to be University), Mullana-Ambala, Haryana, Phase 1 involved protocol development and content validation using the Delphi method with 7 expert panelists. Phase 2 consisted of pilot testing with 12 eligible postmenopausal women selected through criterion-based purposive sampling. Ethical approval and clinical trial registration were obtained. The intervention, administered thrice weekly for four weeks, included aerobic warm-up, resistance training, cognitive games, and cool-down exercises. Outcome measures included the Menopause Rating Scale, COMPASS-31, Hot Flash-Related Daily Interference Scale, and MoCA. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS, applying the Shapiro-Wilk test for normality and Wilcoxon test for non-parametric data. The protocol demonstrated clinical feasibility and potential benefit in managing menopausal symptoms.
