Two different datasets are shared. The first data file (ClinicData_to_share.csv) contains the clinic characteristics and it is structured with one record per clinic. The second data file (syphilis_to_share.csv) contains the maternal characteristics and outcomes variables. This last data file is structured with one record per mother and includes all women recruited during the trial. The data includes both variables taken directed from the data collection forms and constructed variables. The metadata of the database can be found at the document named “20180528 Public Database Documentation Syphilis.doc”. This document also includes sections for Study Overview and information about Randomization, Statistical Analysis and Study Publications, Trial Administration and Oversight and Data Collection and Management. The analysis was done in R Version 3.3.3 and R Studio 1.1.442. Three R files are also shared: • Analysis in R: The construction of the needed variables and the analysis of the whole paper are written at this syntax. As the main analysis was done considering the Clinic as the unit of analysis, it was necessary to calculate the rate of each clinic for the different outcomes and also the rates of the socio-demographics variables. This file also contains some analysis that are not shown at tables but appears written at the paper, and the information needed to prepare the consort and the figures. • Functions: A set of functions were prepared in order to make easier the analysis. • MarkDownSyphilis: By running this file a .doc file will be created. This word document will contained all the tables at the paper and at the supplementary, some results that are included at the paper that are not shown in tables, and the data needed to build the figures.

Steps to reproduce

To reproduce the analysis in R three libraries should be downloaded: knitr, dplyr, doBy. The analysis will be reproduce by running the R file named: “MarkDownSyphilis” . Figures were prepared in excel using data from the doc. file.
