Drag coefficient and its sea state dependence under tropical cyclones
Description
These data are for the publication, which estimates drag coefficient under 5 tropical cyclones by combing model simulations and EM-APEX float observations: "Zhou, Xiaohui, et al. "Drag coefficient and its sea state dependence under tropical cyclones." Journal of Physical Oceanography (2022), DOI:https://doi.org/10.1175/JPO-D-21-0246.1 " There are Six folders: (1) URIWindForcing: The 10-meter wind field of 5 TCs created by URI Parametric Wind model, which are used in this study; (2) U10_at_SFMR_Surveys: URI Wind Speed at SMFR survey location and time; (3) U10_Hs_at_NDBC: URI wind Speed and NDBC buoy observed wind speed at NDBC buoys; WW3 simulated significant wave height (hs) and NDBC buoy observed significant wave height at NDBC buoys; (4) Drag_Estimation_in_front_of_TCs_FIg9_10_11: the drag estimates based on EM-APEX observations and URI wind field in front of 5 TCs; (5) Drag_Estimation_and_WaveParameters_under_each_TC_Fig14_21: The Momentum Budget/Drag estimation based on model simulation and EM-APEX observations. The WW3 simulated significant wave height (Hs), wave age, input wave age, the wavelength at peak frequency (Lp), misalignment between wind and wave (psi) are included. (6) EM-APEX_observations: The wind driven current at EM-APEX floats under 5 TCs, it is from Dr. Je-Yuan Hsu in National Taiwan University and Dr Eric D'Asaro at the University of Washington.
