GreatrexHawkins_RhythmicVariance
Description
This dataset contains experimental data recorded as part of three experiments reported in a paper entitled "Rhythmic variance influences speed, but not accuracy, of complex averaging decisions". All three experiments comprised activities undertaken by David Greatrex as part of a PhD conducted at the University of Cambridge between 2013-2018. GreatrexHawkins22_Expt.1a.csv & GreatrexHawkins22_Expt.1b.csv: Both datasets contain the same schema; namely: subNo: subject ID index: within subject index referring to randomisation of trials block: experimental block mean: mean Interaural Level Difference (ILD) of the noise burst sequence periodicity: 1 = periodic, 0 = aperiodic testLevel: ILD of the probe tone pressedKey: response key pressed by participant on a numeric key pad answer: 1 = right; -1 = left isCorrect: correct response = 1; incorrect response = 0 rt = response time s1 - s6: ILD assigned to each of the six noise bursts in a given trial sequence t1 - t5: Inter Onset Interval (seconds) between each of the six noise bursts seqDuration: total duration of the noise burst sequence (seconds) startInterval: interval between start of a trial and onset of the noise burst sequence (seconds) trialDuration: recorded duration between start of trial and onset of the probe tone (seconds) GreatrexHawkins22_Expt.2.csv: subNo: subject ID index: within subject index referring to randomisation of trials block: experimental block level: ILD distribution displacement (+- 4, +-2, +- 1, 0) mean: ILD distribution displacement (ILD, level multiplied by participant specific k) periodicity: 1 = periodic, 0 = aperiodic nEvents: number of noise bursts onset prior to participant response pressedKey: response key pressed by participant on a numeric key pad answer: 1 = right; -1 = left isCorrect: correct response = 1; incorrect response = 0 rt: response time (seconds) s1 - s20: ILD assigned to each of the possible 20 noise bursts in a given trial sequence t1 - t19: Inter Onset Interval (seconds) between each of the possible 20 noise bursts seqDuration: total duration of the programmed noise burst sequence (seconds) startInterval: interval between start of a trial and onset of the noise burst sequence (seconds) trialDuration: recorded duration between start of trial and a participant response (seconds) Data for all three experiments was gathered using a Macbook pro computer running MATLAB scripts written using the psychtoolbox library. Responses were collected using a numerical key pad on an external keyboard.

Steps to reproduce
Each dataset can be reproduced by running a new experimental session under the same conditions referenced in the associated article. This can be done by running the following software used in the original experiments: GreatrexHawkins22_Expt.1a.csv: https://github.com/dcgreatrex-phd/experiment_3 GreatrexHawkins22_Expt.1b.csv: https://github.com/dcgreatrex-phd/experiment_4 GreatrexHawkins22_Expt.2.csv: https://github.com/dcgreatrex-phd/experiment_6
