Data from: Preceptors’ professional actions in interprofessional health education: a scoping review

This data is from a scoping review aimed to map professional actions of preceptors in interprofessional health education. Finding professional actions is the first step to build professional competences. Based on our research question: “What are the preceptors' professional actions in interprofessional health education?”, we search eight databases (BDENF, IBECS, Lilacs, MEDLINE/Pubmed, ERIC, CINAHL, EMBASE, Web of Science and Scopus) using the controlled vocabulary of each database (DeCS, MESH, CINAHL headings, Eric Thesaurus and Emtree) and keywords selected from a first search on titles, abstracts and index terms related to the theme. Were included peer-reviewed articles of quantitative or qualitative nature, published in Portuguese, Spanish and English. Out of 2,352 studies retrieved, 32 articles were selected by three independent reviewers screening title, abstract and full text. We extracted the following data from the articles: authors, title, journal, country, year, aim, nature of research, level of education, setting in which the interprofessional education is developed, professional action of preceptors in interprofessional education and term related to the professional action. From the 32 articles we extract 198 professional actions of preceptors in interprofessional education. We write those professional action from each article in a standarzed form and group together according to similarity of content. Professional action were summarized, resulting in 128 professionals actions of preceptors in interprofessional education. We find three inductive categories: Foundations of interprofessional preceptorship; Interprofessional pedagogical mediation in the practice settings; and Management of the interprofessional training process in the practice setting. We reported the professional actions of scientific literature. These findings can be used in professional development of preceptors in interprofessional education, in discussions for professional regulation and help to build a profile of professional competences.
