Archaeological Data and other Heritage from Caldas da Rainha (Portugal)
Description
The data presented was processed by an interdisciplinary team between 2017 and 2021 from the Polytechnic Institute of Tomar and CAAPortugal, lidered by Alexandra Figueiredo e Cláudio Monteiro. It is associated with the municipal director plan and is considered relevant for recognizing the region's occupation and identifying areas with the greatest historical heritage impact. This information is essential for future territorial management projects and public-private construction works. The presented data is part of the geopackage created in ArcGIS Pro (Esri), including studies on landscape evolution (lagoon) and observations of various heritage elements, such as archaeological, ethnographic, paleontological, military, and religious sites. It also includes a data table with archaeological remains, chronologies, and observed findings, as well as site records with images. Additionally, the publication of the Archaeological Map provides a more detailed understanding of the data.

Steps to reproduce
The study and data collection were conducted using the appropriate archaeological methodologies, and the project was approved by the Portuguese heritage authority. The project, named CARACARA, can be accessed in the Endovélico database of the DGPC. After field collection, the findings were analyzed, and the data was integrated into the CARACARA database and GIS, resulting in an impact map. The site records provide summarized information on each archaeological location. In the GIS, in addition to archaeological remains, other significant data on municipal heritage are included, such as paleontological, military, and ethnographic elements—particularly milling heritage (mills)—as well as ruins from the modern/contemporary period and other relevant sites.
