COVID-19: Prevalence of Dysgeusia and Ageusia Sense Modality Disorders in Pre-Elderly

COVID-19 (Coronavirus Infection Diseases-19) will cause several manifestations and symptoms, one of which is dysgeusia and ageusia. COVID-19 can infect all humans from various age groups, but the pre-elderly age (45-59 years old) group requires special attention because this age group has a fairly high percentage of exposure when compared to other age groups, so this is what inspires us to investigate the prevalence of this disorder. This is in the pre-elderly age group. This study aims to know the prevalence of dysgeusia and ageusia in the pre-elderly age group in Sumbersari District, Jember, East Java, Indonesia. Descriptive observational was used in this study with a cross-sectional approach. The subjects in this study were pre-elderly aged 4 who tested positive for COVID-19 in January - December 2021 in Sumbersari District, Jember Regency. This study used a questionnaire with a total of 97 respondents. The sampling technique is simple random sampling. The research results obtained from 97 respondents obtained as many as 41 dysegsia subjects (26 men, 15 women) which prevalence 46.26% and at ageusia there were 26 subjects (13 men, 13 women) which prevalence 26.82%. It can be concluded that dysgeusia is the most common symptom followed by ageusia with more male than female.
