Description

This file compiles the data recorded during the implementation of the New Product Development Methodology based on collaborative engineering and scalability of the product development in a real industrial company.. It includes not only the KPI's of the area before and after implementation of the new methodology, but also the results of the measured product development time in the products under analysis.

Steps to reproduce

The experimental approach to analyse the impact of using one scalability level (SL) or another consisted in developing the same product (or two variants of the same product) by two different engineers, one using one SL and the other using another SL. In both cases, the time dedicated to 3D development, 2D drawings, codification, support to manufacturing area and non-quality correction actions, as well as the time dedicated to produce the parts, was collected in the ERP and compared. Initially in the pilot tests for the methodology validation, which lasted 6 months, 20 references were developed in both SL2 and SL3, 20 new different references were developed in SL1 and SL2 and in parallel 9 of these last 20 references were developed also in SL3. All the results were collected and analysed to calculate the lead-time optimizations in the process and the savings expected, but also to detect the incidences found and new points for improvement to be implemented in a second phase. The second phase consisted on the methodology progressive deployment by teams in the company, affecting during 2021 to more than 20,000 references developed in different SLs.
