Dysthymia and vulnerable narcissism
The aim of the study was to explore the association between vulnerable narcissitic traits (assessed by the Hypersensitive Narcissism Scale-HSNS) and severity of depression (assessed by the Beck Depression Inventory-BDI) among dysthymic patients. Sociodemographic and clinical variables were gathered and tested for potential confounders. Differences in the scores of both BDI and HSNS among the different categories of all of these variables were explored; we conducted ANOVA and Student’s t to compare means, and Pearson’s correlation for age. A negative correlation between age and HSNS score (r=-0.250, p=0.025), and between age and BDI score (r=-0.345, p=0.002) was observed. No significant differences were found for the rest of sociodemographic and clinical variables. We conducted a regression analysis introducing HSNS as independent variable, BDI as dependent variable, age as moderator and controlling for sex. To that end, we used PROCESS procedure for SPSS Release 2.16.1.
