Description

The files explain the main data and the code that can be used for the replication of the paper: “From employee to entrepreneur: The role of unemployment risk” by Ai Jun Hou, Sara Jonsson, Xiaoyang Li, and Qinglin Ouyang.

Files

Steps to reproduce

The code consists of five .do files in total, including a master file. The remaining four files are used for the following purposes, respectively: (1) Extracting data from the SCB database and constructing a panel, (2) Creating and storing a list of specific individual-level variables based on the raw data, (3) Creating and storing a list of specific firm-level variables based on the raw data and (4) implementing the empirical analysis. The reason why steps 2 and 3 are necessary is that the data is too large to be easily operated as a whole in the server. The variable names are mostly self-explanatory and remarks are provided if necessary. Because of the confidentiality issues discussed above, this replication package does not contain the real data. A list of pseudo data are provided under the \Built folder.
