We exposed 2 groups of children to laboratory stress, such as the Stroop and mental arithmetic, and measured their heart rate responses. Athlete children showed overall lower heart rates during the anticipation and stress period than non-athlete children.

Steps to reproduce

Expose athlete and non-athlete children to 2-min laboratory stress and measure their heart rates before, during and after stress exposure. Then contrast the measures between the two groups. Control for perceived arousal, feeling state, performance on the challenging tasks and perceived stress of the challenging tasks.
