Figure 1. Distinct anatomical feature of dermal white adipose tissue (dWAT) in mice and human skin. (a) In mice, the dWAT underneath the reticular dermis is separated from the sWAT by the panniculus carnosus. (b) The panniculus carnosus was absent in human skin, however, there are many morphological and biological distinctions between dWAT and sWAT.
