Description
Regression data of research paper on inventor triad behavior and invention quality. Raw data is mainly obtained from NBER patent data, Harvard patent dataverse and Compustat data. This study examines how triadic closure dynamics among inventors impact the extent to which they generate high-quality inventions. We propose that initially open triads of collaborating inventors that turn into a closed triad generate higher quality inventions compared to triads that maintain open. We also examine the extent to which the connectedness of the inventor triad influences the relationship between triad closure and the ability to generate high-quality inventions. Using a matched sample of open and closed triads during the period 1987-2003. Our theory aims to predict the quality of the patented inventions generated by the inventor triad (Invention quality). The main independent variable compares open triads that remain open (control group) with open triads that turn into closed triads (treatment group), which we obtain through the CEM matching process. As a result, our independent variable is a binary variable with 1 represents triads that become closed triads (Closed triad), and 0 represents triads that remain open.
