A comprehensive search was conducted up to December 3, 2024, across PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, Cochrane Trial and SPORTDiscus databases. Included were involving sedentary adults, both with and without chronic conditions, published in English, that compared the effects of WBE and LBE on cardiovascular fitness. Studies of other designs, or those involving participants who had recently experienced acute illness or had non-compensated heart, liver, or kidney dysfunction, were excluded. The main outcome measures were maximum oxygen consumption, 6-minute walking distance, resting heart rate, and resting systolic and diastolic blood pressure.
