UNVEILING THE EDUCATIONAL LANDSCAPE OF MURSHIDABAD DISTRICT DURING THE COLONIAL ERA: AN IN-DEPTH HISTORICAL ANALYSIS
Description
Abstract: When thinking about India's past, one must include Murshidabad. During the Middle Ages, Bengal's capital was Murshidabad. Both culturally and industrially, Karnasubarna of Murhsidabad was significant in the ancient world. The autonomous Nawabs of Bengal in the last Mughal era were the cultural and political focal points of this. Murshidabad was also the starting point for British authority in India after the Plassey and Baxa battles. English education began in Murshidabad as a consequence of this, which caused a major shift in the city's educational system as well as its economic and political structures. The zamindars and rulers of India, together with Christian missionaries, played an important role in the dissemination of modern education in Murshiadabad.

Conclusion: The aforesaid debate leads to the conclusion that indigenous noble families and educated individuals had a significant role in promoting education in Murshidabad throughout the Nawabi era and the pre-colonial period. There was some government effort, albeit not extensive. The Nawabs implemented educational plans inside the government, but these initiatives were exclusively targeted towards their own families and the aristocratic families, rather than being accessible to the common public. During the colonial period, the British administration implemented measures to promote the dissemination of education. However, it fell well short of meeting the specified standards due to its diminutive size.
