Dataset for Cluster Subtype Analysis of Pediatric Adenoidal Hypertrophy (Age, Immune Indicators, Dust Mite Allergen)
Description
This dataset corresponds to a retrospective clinical study conducted between 2023 and 2025 at the Department of Otolaryngology, Changzhou Children’s Hospital. The study enrolled 535 pediatric patients diagnosed with adenoidal hypertrophy. Data collection involved: Recording basic clinical information (e.g., age) of eligible patients; Detecting immune indicators (including complement C3, immunoglobulin A/IgG) via immunoturbidimetry; Measuring allergen-specific IgE levels (e.g., Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus, Dermatophagoides farinae) using immunoblotting; Collecting adenoidal-nasopharyngeal ratio data via nasal endoscopy. All data were anonymized after collection to protect patient privacy, and the study was approved by the local ethics committee.

Steps to reproduce
1. Study Design & Sample Selection Study type: Retrospective cohort study. Inclusion criteria: Pediatric patients (≤14 years old) diagnosed with adenoidal hypertrophy at the Department of Otolaryngology, Changzhou Children’s Hospital, between June 2023 and September 2025. Exclusion criteria: Patients with severe systemic diseases (e.g., immunodeficiency, congenital heart disease) or incomplete clinical records. Sample screening: 722 initial cases were enrolled; 535 cases with complete Total IgE data (core indicator) were selected for this dataset. 2. Data Collection Methods & Instruments Demographic & clinical information: Collected via electronic medical records (age, gender, comorbid diseases) and nasal endoscopy (adenoidal-nasopharyngeal ratio [A/N]). Immune indicator detection: Serum complement (C3, C4) and immunoglobulins (IgA, IgG, IgM) were measured using immunoturbidimetry (Instrument: Beckman AU5800 automatic biochemical analyzer). Peripheral blood eosinophil count/percentage was detected via automated hematology analyzer (Instrument: Sysmex XN-1000). Allergen-specific IgE detection: Total IgE and specific IgE (e.g., Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus, Dermatophagoides farinae) were measured using immunoblotting (Instrument: Euroimmun Allergy Strip Test System); ">100 kU/L" indicates levels exceeding the detection limit. 3. Data Preprocessing Anonymization: Removed all personal identifiers (e.g., name, medical record number) and replaced them with anonymous sample IDs. Missing value handling: Excluded cases with missing Total IgE data (the core indicator for this study) to ensure dataset integrity. Format unification: Converted all data to Excel format (sj1.xls) for standardization. 4. Data Analysis Workflow Software: R (version 4.3.3). Packages: readxl (1.4.3): Imported the Excel dataset. tidyverse (2.0.0): Cleaned and preprocessed data (e.g., filtering valid samples). cluster (2.1.4): Performed cluster analysis on immune/allergen indicators. factoextra (1.0.7): Visualized cluster analysis results.
