Description

Data diction ------------------------------ The motivation for creating this dataset arose from reviewer comments. A reviewer questioned why China appeared in one map but not the other. We had initially projected two maps showing the top ten countries with the most papers in climate change adaptation research involving South Africa. To address this discrepancy, we compiled the dataset, allowing reviewers to fully understand the data we analyze. ----------------------- 3 columns ----------------------------- 1. Country name [text] 2. Publications [count] 3. Source database[text]

Steps to reproduce

This dataset originated from an original dataset that we obtained by downloading two separate datasets. One dataset was sourced from Scopus, while the other came from the Web of Science. We collected data from both databases by searching for articles published between 1985 and 2023. Specifically, we focused on articles related to “climate change” “adaptation” and “South Africa”. The underlying assumption behind this dataset is that the number of publications produced by each country reflects its investment in research related to climate change adaptation. In other words, more publications indicate greater research efforts. Once we downloaded the two datasets, we aligned the countries. If a country appeared in one dataset but not the other, we created a row with a value of 0 to ensure that both datasets had the same set of country names.
