Description

his dataset contains the raw data used in the analyses reported in "Migratory Status Shapes Exploratory Behavior but not Learning Performance in Hummingbird Color Discrimination" (Porras-Reyes et al., Birds, 2026). The data include behavioral observations from reversal learning experiments conducted on two sympatric hummingbird species—the resident White-eared Hummingbird (Basilinna leucotis) and the migratory Broad-tailed Hummingbird (Selasphorus platycercus)—at La Malinche National Park, Tlaxcala, Mexico (2012-2013). Files include: Individual-level data on flower visit patterns during training and reversal phases Color discrimination performance metrics (latency to first visit, visits to criterion, visit proportions) Species identification, experimental group assignments, and temporal sequence data Data support analyses of three components of behavioral flexibility: exploration (neophobia and approach behavior), exploitation (learning performance), and inhibition (reversal learning capacity).
