Description

Contains stress and strain data for miniature dogbone specimens of 6061-T6 aluminum and Ti-6Al-4V To fit dimensional constraints for other work, tensile specimens were scaled from the ASTM E8-16a standard to a smaller overall size and machined from 12.7 mm thick plate. The size of the gripping area was also increased to prevent slippage within the jaws of the tensile tester. A clip-on strain gage was used in conjunction with an Instron 5kN load cell to measure load and strain. Stress was calculated based off the instantaneous cross-sectional area as estimated using the poisons ratio. A strain rate calculated from the crosshead speed on the tensile tester of 4*10-4 s-1 was used.
