Cardiovascular risk in severe mental illness in Italy

Description

Patients with serious mental illness (schizophrenia or bipolar disorder) consecutively admitted to the inpatients units in Milan and Genova (Italy). Patients were 35-69 years of age. Aim of the study: assess 10-years CV risk. The following variables were assessed: Socio-demographic: Age, gender, education, marital and occupational status Clinical: Diagnosis, age at onset, number of episodes, presence of lifetime suicide attempts, current pharmacological treatment 10-year CV risk assessment: Weight, height, blood pressure, fasting glucose, total and High Density Lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, triglycerides, smoking habits, physical exercise.
