Empirical data from China to examine which kinds of risk perception play key role in the relationship between community participation and protective action in the context of hazardous chemicals.

Based on the data, we examined the role of risk perception in the relationship between community participation and protective action in the context of hazardous chemicals. The data file contains raw data collected by online platform in the year of 2017. 1700 questionnaires was collected from six cities in china where has typical characteristics of hazardous chemicals accidents, such as Zhangzhou, Zibo, Lanzhou, Changzhou, Chongqing, and Tianjin. The data include (1) the performance of demographic characteristics, include sex, age, marital status, etc. (2) the characteristics of public community participation, risk perception and protective action intention.

Steps to reproduce

Due to the wide distribution of these six cities, this study carried out investigation with the aid of online platform. “Wenjuanxing” is a professional platform that support for data collections, and the strength of this platform is not only its convenience but also its reliability. Until to now, more than 25 million uses used this platform retrieved 1 billion 680 million questionnaires. In average, more than 1 million people complete questionnaires on the platform per day. According to the analysis of 2.6 million sample members, about 48% of members are male, approximately 70% of members age between 20 and 40, and sample members include a variety of vacations, as students, ordinary employees, managers and research workers accounted for 26.3%, 39.2%, 10.2%, 9.7% respectively. Users could raise the needs of target groups according to research need, and this platform will return effective sample data to users based on the quality of questionnaires. According to the sample size of the infinite population, the minimum sample size is 246. Considering the recovery rate and quality of questionnaires, 360 questionnaires were planned to collect from each cities. So a total of 2160 questionnaires were distributed by the online platform, and in order to ensure the quality of the questionnaire survey, quota sampling restrictions were conducted by the gender and educational level. A fixed amount of money were used to reward respondents who completed the questionnaires. Finally 1700 valid questionnaires were collected after the selection of the questionnaire and the missing value treatment,
