Description

Design of novel bio-inspired surface-based lattice structure to address the challenges of post-processing powder removal in powder bed fusion AM process. Design of ventilated 3D honeycomb lattice structure to facilitate parallel and cross-flow of powder between the inter-cellular and intra-cellular regions of the lattice structure. The CFD simulation of flow through different surface-based lattice structures can predict the ease of powder flowability during the post-processing powder removal stage. The FEA simulation of the ventilated lattice structure predicts the anisotropic behavior of the novel lattice structure with close correlation with experimental results. The compressive strength of the novel lattice structure shows promising strength of the designed novel lattice structure compared to other popular surface-based lattice structures.
