Data sets of stable isotope in precipitation and surface water in the upper reaches of Shiyang River

Description

The upper reaches of the Shiyang River on the northern slope of the Qilian Mountains, with an altitude ranging from 1,531m to 3,553m, is located in a cold and arid area. From October 2016 to October 2020, we set up 6 sampling points (P1-P6) in this area, collected 863 precipitation samples, and 432 valid surface water samples (S1-S5). The precipitation samples are collected in time after each precipitation time, and the surface water samples are collected once a month.

Steps to reproduce

Set up 6 sampling points in the mountainous area of ​​the upper reaches of Shiyang River. Set up standard rain cones of meteorological stations at sampling points, and specialized workers collect samples after each precipitation event and record the amount of precipitation. Surface water samples are collected once a month. Rainwater samples were collected immediately after each period of precipitation using a plastic funnel-bottle, putting it into a 50 ml polyethylene sampling bottle, closing the bottle cap tightly and then sealing the bottle mouth with a sealing film. All samples were placed in cold storage until their analysis, to minimize evaporation.The δD and δ18O of all samples were measured using DLT-100 isotope analyzer (Los Gatos Research, USA) at the isotope laboratory of Northwest Normal University. Each precipitation sample and isotope standard sample was injected six times. The first two injections were discarded and the average result of the last four injections used in analysis.
