Description
Fragrant, yellowish-white flowers of Moringa oleifera are the blooming parts of that tree belonging to Moringaceae family. Appearance: They grow in large, drooping panicles and are about 1–1.5 cm long and 2 cm broad. Each flower has five unequal, thinly veined petals. Nutritional Value: The flowers are rich in potassium, calcium, and amino acids, making them a valuable dietary supplement, especially for nursing mothers. Edibility: They are considered a delicacy in many cultures, particularly in South Asia, where they are used in curries, fritters (pakoras), and teas. Shelf life: Fresh moringa flowers are highly perishable. When stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator, they typically keep for a couple of days to approximately 7 days, depending on their initial freshness and moisture content.Fresh white-greenish flowers turn pale, yellow, or light brown as they age. Petals lose turgidity, wither, and eventually fall off. Sample Collection: Fresh and mature flowers of moringa tree are collected during the peak flowering season, generally in the of march from local trees of Malda,West Bengal, India ( 24°59'N to 88°08'E ) and the collection location was mapped using GPS coordinates . Immediately after collection of samples, they were checked for presence of any dust particles and their removal. Bad ones are removed and good flowers separated from the bunch , isolated, placed on white and black A4 sheets . Digital images of the samples were captured using a smartphone (Xiaomi Redmi 12 C) operating on Android version 12 . This device was equipped with MediaTek Helio G85 (Up to 2.0GHz), 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. Image acquisition was carried out daily for 5 consecutive days after collection to monitor the visual quality changes and shelf life deterioration. Approximately 250 images were captured per day over both white and black background, out of which 200 high quality images of each background, per day were selected based on clarity and focus . The image dataset was used to study progressive changes in color, texture, surface integrity and microbial spoilage during storage. In this dataset , 500 good image within "good" folder and 500 bad images within "bad" folders are included within the folder " white background. Same folders with similar numbers of images were included within another file named " black background. Therefore, total 2000 images of moringa flowers were uploaded in this dataset .
