Description

Complete 3D kinematics parameters of the temporo-mandibular joints using in vivo data fusion: thoroughly description of the kinematic behavior of the TMJs through a tridimensional (3D) model, gathering all the kinematic parameters contributing to the global movements of the mandible compared to the skull, as well as the local movements of the 2 condyles compared to their sockets and instantaneous helical axis analysis. In doing so, we hope to contribute to the development of researchers’ and engineers’ own models. We propose normalized kinematic parameters of rotations and translations, from motion analysis of 5 subjects with a healthy masticatory system performing maximum jaw opening and closing, diduction and chewing. In preparation for further anatomical and kinematic studies, we also provide the entirety of the helical axis (HA) parameters (director cosines, the cumulative HA rotation and translation, Instantaneous HA rotation center coordinates).
