Description

This dataset contains data and analysis code used in the study of Rock Hyrax (Procavia capensis) vocalisations. It covers three complementary components of the project: 1 - Sound Propagation Experiments Output of controlled playback–recording trials quantifying distance-related spectral degradation of male songs. Includes propagation data and R scripts for calculating acoustic degradation metrics. 2 -Structural Analysis of Natural Songs Output of analyses testing the syntactic organisation of natural songs. Focus on the position of the Wail element and its inclusion or omission depending on receiver attention. 3 - Playback Experiments Output of behavioural playback trials. Tests the effect of Wail element presence in male songs on the probability of eliciting a receiver response. Together, these datasets allow replication of the acoustic, structural, and behavioural analyses described in the associated manuscript.
