Data for: The Fine Art of Healthcare:Visual Thinking Strategies for Interprofessional communication skills development in Graduate Nurse Anesthesia Education

In the fall semester of 2016, students from the DNP nurse anesthesia program, along with medical, physical therapy (DPT), nursing and psychology students, were invited to participate in the series of three Fine Art of Healthcare workshops at the Lowe Art Museum. The monthly sessions were 2.5 hours each. Because this is an enhancement program, the students did not receive academic credit. However, the nurse anesthesia students were asked to commit to at least one session to receive a course participation credit. Chosen by the museum educators, the artwork included pieces on display either from the Lowe Museum’s permanent collections or from temporary exhibitions. Some of the fine art paintings used for the workshop included Jusepe Di Ribera, Saint Onuphrius, ca. 1642; circle of Pieter de Grebber, Unequal Lovers (The Trapped Thief), ca. 1650; and Lippo Vanni, Madonna and Child Enthroned with Donors and Saints Dominic and Elizabeth of Hungary, ca. 1343. Total of 26 participants signed up for the first session: two Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) students, two medical students, 10 nurse anesthesia students, and 12 undergraduate nursing students. At the end of the first VTS session, all participants were asked to complete an anonymous survey with 13 questions about their experience and their perceptions of the workshop. The answers were collected and analyzed via the Qualtrics survey platform.
