Data-set on the air quality assessment in Kampala city during the COVID-19 induced lockdown

Description

Kampala is the notable and busiest city in the East African territories and it is the capital city of the ‘Republic of Uganda’. In recent days it is observed that the air pollution in Kampala city is rapidly increasing due to the hike of vehicles running on fossil fuels, industrialization and the use of biomass fuel for domestic purposes. Air Quality Index (AQI) is one of the most effective tool to communicate information about the quality of the air to the citizens and policymakers. This data article explicit the AQI measured in a key region (U.S. embassy, Kampala) during the COVID-19 induced lockdown period from March 2020 till October 2020. The obtained data were compared with the same period of the previous year. Promising and notable observations were made in terms of AQI of Kampala city. Value of the Data • The data-set presented in the article explicit the air pollution range of Kampala city in terms of AQI to the policymakers and common man during this COVID-19 induced lockdown period. • The data-set and analysis presented in this data article could benefit the policymakers to frame necessary remedial measures to control air pollution in the capital city. • The data-set provided in this article can be extended to investigate the air pollution in other parts of Kampala city and even other prime regions of the country ‘Republic of Uganda’. • The data-set provided in this article can create a potential impact on society. As there is rapid growth in industrialization, the quality of air is getting worsen year by year. So this data-set might be an alarm to the policymakers in the context of regional planning.
