Description

​​The onset of oral diseases is proportional to the socioeconomical and educational status of human beings. This study’s objective was to analyze the relation between the socioeconomical and educational status of parents regarding the oral condition of children ages 3 to 12 that attended the dentist clinic Dr. René Puig Bentz of the Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña.

Steps to reproduce

The sample was constituted by 65 patients, which were grouped according to their oral hygiene conditions, socioeconomical status, and educational status. This was a cross-section experimental study evaluating and checking patients via the CPO-D, CEO-D and O’Leary indexes. The results were analyzed using the SPSS program and the statistical analysis of χ2. The results showed that the most predominant socioeconomical status was the low status (64.62%), the most predominant educational status was the secondary level (43.08%), the most prevalent oral hygiene condition among children in the O’Leary index was the deficient (53.85%), the most predominant sex in both indexes (CPO-D and CEO-D) was the female in the moderate CPO-D index (60%), and the very high CEO-D index (38.33%). The oral hygiene condition of children according to age, the most predominant age was 10 years old or more (80%) in the moderate CPO-D index (60%), in the CEO-D index the most predominant age was 6 to 9 years old (55%) with a high CEO-D index (38.33%). In conclusion, a relation between socioeconomical and educational status and the oral condition of children does exist.
