Description

Muscle health has become a public health problem that critically affects quality of life and clinical prognosis among elderly people. After the age of 50, skeletal muscle mass decreases by approximately one-third. Excessive muscle deterioration induced muscular atrophy, ultimately results in sarcopenia. Traditional Chinese exercises (TCEs) are characterized by slow, controlled movements, moderate intensity, and high accessibility, making them particularly suitable for elderly and people with high risk of sarcopenia. Therefore, this study aim to employ network meta-analysis to include randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of different TCEs for sarcopenia, comparing Tai Chi, Baduanjin, Yijinjing, and related interventions in terms of their effects on muscle strength, muscle mass, and physical performance, then identify the optimal intervention strategy, provide high-quality evidence for non-pharmacological treatment of sarcopenia, and support precise exercise prescriptions for promoting muscle health in older adults.
