Raw data for "The effects of Five-Animal exercise in ankylosing spondylitis: A randomized controlled study"
Description
This dataset contains individual participant data from a parallel‐group randomized controlled trial evaluating the add-on effects of Five-Animal exercise (Wuqinxi) in patients with ankylosing spondylitis. Sixty-four adults were randomly allocated to a Wuqinxi plus usual care group (n = 32) or a usual care only control group (n = 32) and followed for 12 weeks. The file includes one row per participant and multiple columns for baseline and week-12 measurements. Variables cover sociodemographic characteristics (age, sex, marital status, education, smoking and alcohol use), disease-related factors (disease duration, HLA-B27 status, use of NSAIDs and biologics), clinical and functional outcomes (finger-to-ground distance, occiput-to-wall distance, Modified Modified Schober test, BASFI, BASDAI, BASMI, VAS pain), radiographic scores (mSASSS, SPARCC), serum inflammatory biomarkers (ESR, CRP, IL-10, IL-17) and molecular markers (Act1, IκBα, Smad1, NF-κB/p65), as well as SF-36 domain scores (PF, RP, BP, GH, VT, SF, RE, MH) and selected change scores. All data are fully de-identified: only study IDs and randomized group labels are provided, with no names, dates of birth, contact details or other direct identifiers. A separate data dictionary file (AS_Wuqinxi_RCT_datadictionary.xlsx) defines all variables, units and coding schemes to facilitate reuse and replication of the analyses reported in the associated article.

Steps to reproduce
To reproduce the main analyses, first download the files AS_Wuqinxi_RCT_rawdata.xlsx and AS_Wuqinxi_RCT_datadictionary.xlsx. One row corresponds to one randomized participant and columns correspond to baseline and week-12 measurements as defined in the data dictionary. Import the raw data into a statistical package (e.g. SPSS, R or Stata) and apply the variable names and coding described in the data dictionary. Define the randomized treatment groups as “Wuqinxi plus usual care” and “usual care only”. For baseline characteristics (Table 1 in the associated article), summarize continuous variables as mean ± SD and categorical variables as counts and percentages by group. For clinical, functional, radiographic and biomarker outcomes, calculate change scores from baseline to week 12 where appropriate (week 12 minus baseline). Compare mean changes between groups using independent-samples t-tests or equivalent linear models, and report mean differences with 95% confidence intervals as described in the article. SF-36 domain scores can be analyzed in the same way. All analyses, including handling of missing data and sensitivity analyses, can be reproduced by following the statistical analysis description in the accompanying manuscript.
