Dataset of Objective Determinant, Political Knowledge, Self-Efficacy, Satisfaction, and Civic Engagement on Good Digital Citizenship
Description
This dataset presents information on political knowledge, political self-efficacy, political satisfaction, digital media use, civic engagement, and digital citizenship among 532 higher education students in Indonesia. Data were collected through an online survey administered via Google Forms. The dataset includes validated measures related to students’ political orientations, civic participation, and digital citizenship practices in the context of contemporary digital society. In addition to the main variables, the dataset contains objective socio-demographic and economic determinants, including gender, level of study, parents’ highest educational attainment, parental income level, and place of residence. These variables enable researchers to examine structural inequalities and socio-economic influences on political and civic behavior among young adults in higher education settings. Structured to facilitate reproducibility and secondary analysis, this dataset offers opportunities for comparative studies, mediation and moderation analyses, psychometric validation, and cross-cultural research related to political participation and digital citizenship. The dataset may also support policymakers, educators, and researchers in understanding how digital media environments shape civic engagement, political efficacy, and democratic participation among university students in developing countries, particularly within the Indonesian context.

The dataset was collected through the online distribution of questionnaires using Google Forms to higher education students in Indonesia. This approach was chosen to efficiently reach respondents from diverse geographic and socio-economic backgrounds while capturing broad insights into students’ political knowledge, political self-efficacy, political satisfaction, civic engagement, digital media use, and digital citizenship. The survey was administered across multiple higher education institutions in Indonesia using a voluntary participation approach through online dissemination channels. Prior to analysis, the collected responses underwent a data cleaning and coding process to ensure completeness and consistency. The dataset was subsequently analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics version 29. Preliminary analyses included descriptive statistics, reliability testing, and data screening procedures to evaluate internal consistency and data distribution. Further quantitative analyses were conducted to examine the relationships between socio-demographic and economic determinants—such as gender, level of study, parental education, parental income, and place of residence—and the main constructs related to political and civic engagement in digital environments. The dataset also enables advanced statistical analyses, including correlation, regression, mediation, moderation, and comparative group analyses, to better understand patterns of political participation and digital citizenship among university students in Indonesia.
