Description

The data sheet “Fostering experiment” shows the caste fate of larvae developed in natal and foster colonies in the subterranean termite Reticulitermes speratus. The number of individuals of each sex and caste are shown. The data sheet “Genotype colony GA” shows the genotype of each individual in colonies with an even sex ratio in nymphs. Numbers in each cell indicate the alleles of the individual at each of the four microsatellite loci. PK: primary king; SQ: secondary queen; MW: male first-instar worker (W1); FW: female first-instar worker (W1); MN: male first-instar nymph (N1); FN: female first-instar nymph (N1). The data sheet “Genotype colony GB” shows the genotype of each individual in colonies with a female-biased sex ratio in nymphs. The data sheet “Sex ratio of larva and alate” shows the numerical sex ratio of second-instar larva (L2), third instar [sum of first-instar nymph (N1) and first-instar worker (W1)], N1, and alate in field colonies. The data sheet “Alate sex ratio and body weight” shows the fresh body weight (measured to the nearest 0.1 mg) of each sex of 10 alates (indiv1–indiv10) among colonies with different alate sex ratios. The mean body weight of each sex of alates and body weight ratio (male/female) are also shown.
