Self-administrated prophylactics and SARS-CoV-2 infection among traditional market vendors from the Central Highlands of Peru
Description
This dataset was generated from a nested case-control study conducted among traditional market vendors enrolled in a health program in the province of Huancayo, located in the Junín region of the Peruvian Central Highlands, during the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. The study aimed to explore the association between self-administered prophylactic substances and SARS-CoV-2 infection. A total of 73 cases (individuals with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection) were matched to 176 controls (individuals with negative test results) by age, sex, and market of origin. The dataset includes individual-level information on demographic characteristics, self-medication practices (including the use of substances such as acetylsalicylic acid, ivermectin, azithromycin, vitamin C, and others), COVID-19 vaccination status, comorbidities, and SARS-CoV-2 test results. The primary variables of interest include the use of specific prophylactic medications and infection status. Conditional logistic regression was used to evaluate associations between these exposures and the odds of SARS-CoV-2 infection. The dataset supports reproducibility of the main findings reported in the associated manuscript and may be useful for secondary analyses on self-medication practices and COVID-19 outcomes.
