Description

The EDS line scan data of the UW sample demonstrated remarkable differences between the Ca and Mg ratios of the exterior and interior of the dolomite grains. The Mg content of the exterior of the grains was remarkably lower than that of the interior of the grains. EDS data1 demonstrated that the Ca/Mg atomic ratio on the surface of the dolomite grains in the UW sample was ~4/1; however, the Ca/Mg atomic ratio inside the dolomite grains was ~1/1. EDS data2 demonstrated that the surface of the broken dolomite grains has a layer of organic matter, which contains C, O and N. EDS data3 demonstrated that the green algal microorganisms have high C, O and N contents, basically the same composition as that of the organic matter on the surface of the broken dolomite grains. EDS data4 demonstrated that the shell of dolomite grains was dissolved, and the Mg was almost completely lost, while the composition of the core remained unchanged. EDS data5 demonstrated that the new crystals generated were gypsum, and the Ca/Mg atomic ratio of the flat dolomite grains was ~1:1. EDS data6 demonstrated that the shell of dolomite grains was converted to gypsum, but the core did not react. FTIR spectral data demonstrated that the marble surface was treated with a protective silicone material.
