Description

Parkinson disease is a second most leading chronic, progressive degenerative disease of central nervous system characterized by motor and non-motor symptoms. Telerehabilitation has been used in various neurological conditions i.e stroke, Parkinson disease.Recent studies discussed its effects equal to face-to-face therapy. This study is designed to check the effect of WhatsApp video based rehabilitation in improving balance and quality of life among patients with Parkinson disease as telerehabilitation. Five patients with Parkinson disease were recruited on the basis of inclusion criterion. All patients received balance training, stepping activity and mobility training 2 times for 7 days upto 4 weeks. Outcomes were assessed at baseline and after the intervention of the selected patients. Balance was assessed by the Berg Balance scale. And, the quality of life was assessed by the Parkinson disease questionnaire-39. Normality of the data was determined by Shapiro-Wilk test and the data was normally distributed. Paired t-test was used to compare the values of outcome measures. After the 4-week intervention, balance was improved significantly (p<0.05), quality of life improved significantly (p<0.05). We concluded that the WhatsApp video based rehabilitation improved the balance and quality of life of patients with Parkinson disease. However, more research is necessary to identify the effects of WhatsApp video based rehabilitation with larger sample size.
