Description

This dataset offers time-series data for Ethiopia covering the period from 1980 to 2023, used to investigate how inflation conditions the relationship between fiscal policy and economic growth in Ethiopia. It includes two files: an Excel spreadsheet (.xlsx) with the complete dataset and a ReadME.txt file with detailed documentation. The main dependent variable for the analysis is Gross Domestic Product Per Capita (GDPC). The dataset features key explanatory variables representing fiscal policy indicators, inflation, and other macroeconomic controls essential for the study. The data is organised for use with an Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model. For a comprehensive description of all variables, their sources, transformations, and the specific ARDL model setup, researchers must consult the accompanying ReadMe.txt file.

Steps to reproduce

# Software Requirement The analysis requires EViews (version 10 was used). # Reproduction Steps All steps required to reproduce the results from the paper "Inflation and the Fiscal Policy-Growth Relationship in Ethiopia" are detailed in the accompanying `ReadME.txt` file. The general workflow is as follows: 1. **Data Import:** Open EViews and import the data from the `data_ethiopia_1980-2023.xlsx` file. All variables, including those in logarithmic form (e.g., LNGDPC), are pre-calculated and ready for use. 2. **Unit Root Tests:** Perform unit root tests (ADF and PP) on the key variables to confirm their order of integration, as described in Section 3 (STEP B) of the `ReadME.txt`. 3. **ARDL Model Estimation:** Estimate the ARDL models as specified in the `ReadME.txt` (Section 3, STEP C). This includes the baseline model and the inflation-augmented model. 4. **Diagnostic Tests:** Conduct post-estimation diagnostic tests (for serial correlation, heteroskedasticity, and stability) as outlined in the `ReadME.txt` (Section 3, STEP D). **For precise model specifications, lag selection criteria, and test settings, please follow the detailed instructions in the `ReadME.txt` file.**
