Wind Data Measurement in Geba Catchment, Tigray, North Ethiopia
Wind energy data is essential for assessment of a potential in a given region. The highlands of the Tigray Region in North Ethiopia have landscapes with potential for wind energy development. Ground based wind mast measurements are vital for planning wind energy developments. This dataset consists of wind measurements at three sites in Geba catchment: Dera, Hagerselam and Mayderhu.
Steps to reproduce
This repository is wind data measurement carried out at three sites Dera, Hagereselam and Mayderhu in Geba catchment, Tigray Region, North Ethiopia. The data was collected by installing wind masts at the sites with anemometers at 10 m and 30 m above ground level and a wind vane at 10 m. Data was acquired every 3 seconds for 10 minutes (200 samples) and maximum, minimum, average and standard deviation of the wind speeds were recorded at 10 minutes interval. The datasets were for the years 2011 and 2012. The data files are in Microsoft Excel with columns: date, hour, minute, second, Max30, Min30, AVG30, SD30, Max10, Min10, AVG10,SD10, Wind Direction, Turbulence Intensity and Wind shear. The turbulence intensity TI was calculated at 30 m and the wind shear was calculated based on wind speed at 30 m and 10 m.
